The washboard was a source of energy for resistance during slavery and had its prime time during the Jim Crow era. My grandfather made his mark of resistance during the same Jim Crow era. My grandfather’s writings are as relevant today as they were then. I believe that the washboard is as relevant today as it was then, too.
